When I was on the phone with Ron today he stated that he has wished to END ROW trapping all the way back to the 70's, but he knew that would be a tougher job now than it was then. I just hope this prestaking isnt the first brick. This sounds to me like Ron A. has a personal agenda, or did I just miss something. Even if this is not Ron's idea and he is taking his marching orders from the "Down Town Office" we have a problem. All of a sudden it looks like they are using their position to do more than just manage wildlife. Is there or has there always been a bias against ROW trapping and trapping in general from or SERVANTS in government? I'm starting to feel like every other minority group that has had it's culture stripped away in a systematic manner, bit by bit. I guess I can understand the general public being ignorant and therefore not in favor of our cause, but we are really partners with these "professionals" and together in charge of managing OUR resource. Eliminating ROW trapping limits our ability to use technology(the automobile) to get our job done more efficiently. Scott

Not only that but with the continued increase in urban sprawl more and more private land is becoming inacessable. Heck there are even farmers now that believe the false propaganda regarding trapping and wont allow it on their land. The DNR recognizes that regulated furharvesting is the best management tool. Their job is to make sure healthy pop. are maintained. Removing pre-staking and or the ROW trapping will severely curtail our ability to manage properly. The DNR works for us, not us for them.

Good morning Ron, my name is JD Rogge I am a trapper from Cherokee IA, my line stretches through Cherokee, O'Brien, Buena Vista, and Clay counties. I trap with my partner John **** of ********** IA, John does not have email service at this time so he asked me to include his thoughts in my email also. First I would like to say that I understand that you are not a fan of ROW trapping or of Prestaking, and I understand that both have probably caused you some headaches in the past. We would like to support both prestaking and ROW trapping, as we don't feel we have been adequetly represented by the ITA on these issues at this time. Prestaking is a tool we use for two days before each fur season to make us more efficient on opening day, we do not prestake to "claim" trails as some would like you to belive. My partner and I have limited time to trap each year(vacation), so we have to maximize the amount of sets we can get out on opening day in order to see the full potential of our line each year, and prestaking allows this. As far as ROW trapping is concerned, in todays world all outdoorsmen are finding less and less land accessable to them, why would the DNR want to take road ditches away from trappers? Hunters, fishermen, mushroom hunters, asparagus pickers, farmers, and many other groups have the ability to use the ROW, why are only trappers being threatened in this way? Taking away ROW trapping in Iowa would devestate the annual fur take across the state, the coon population for one would explode. It seems that the practice of farmers posioning coon is becoming more widespread, would the DNR rather see this renewable resource wasted than see trappers take these coon in the ditches, where the majority of the fur in the state is trapped.Thank you Mr Andrews for listening to our concerns, many trappers will be taking the time to contact you on this issue, I hope that you take the time to respond to our/their concerns and do not just send out a standard response email to everyone.Thank you for your time, JD Rogge, John ****
This is a copy of the email that I sent to Ron Andrews this morning, I encourage all who have a opinion on this subject to do the same.

Just spent the last hour reading the Directors Meeting Minutes posted on the ITA website dating back to Sept. 14th, 2007. Nowhere can I find any mention or even a hint this pre-staking issue was a problem, was discussed or even if anyone received complaints.
