if on the south skunk I know you have to have permission from each side of the river from whoever owns it in order to place your equipment on that side. you can float down that river all day but as soon as you place equipment on it, you are required by law to have permission from the landowner to do so. I should know, I trap some on the skunk river and have permission there

I use apples or cabbage, trail into the trap little pieces including down the hole...trap set as close to hole as you can, prefer a positive set if at all possible, the koonce cage from trap and trail is the best ghog positive set trap I can find. I also use Jameson's formula one and two for lures

ia yogi is right, got to study for a 100 question test, get at least 80 percent right, i think i scored around 93 or 94, some questions can have multiple answers even though they think they have the right one, lol, then have to do a verbal question answer with your co, fill out permit application and pay $25 for the fee for the year and it expires jan 10th of each year and cost $20 to renew

just throwing this out there, you probably already know that beaver season is closed until november, are you still trapping them anyway? if so and not on your own land you are required to have a nuisance wildlife control permit

exactly, way too many variables like what time of day trap was checked in, set location being stressful on the animal as far as livestock or human encounters, etc. etc.

i may be misinformed as a law that has changed but i believe that missouri conceal carry permit is not honored by iowa. i know that while in missouri i had a concealed carry and was not allowed to carry in iowa when back visiting. that was 2 years ago. I WAS MISINFORMED..........I contacted my handgun mentor from southwest missouri from www.chiggerridge.com and he informed me that iowa and missouri are reciprocal states and the ccw permit would go on both sides, so i admit my wrongness.

i am hunting 2nd season in southern iowa this weekend and then 4th season and starting a beaver control job tomm and got fishin rights on the pond as well, huge pond close to ankeny that is private, i love my job.

i am just speculating here, but if you filled the push/pull with more bait like a pull only, as the coon reaches in to get the top of the bait he could push and result in a poor hold on the foot

yes, not allowed to set right on crossovers for the otters, this is park is actually 1 mile SE of where the itt get together is. I got the sled out today but i used it for floating my son across the creek, alot easier to skin in the field, 15-20 min and beaver is skun. the sled works good to skin on when turned over...another beaver caught today in same set hard to see the trail LOL my son micah with beaver..in this pic she looks big in this pic of me and beaver, she looks small..wonder why? micah in sled by channel castor rub set

out of 4 traps, 1 catch and no activity at the other 3, did move one that had collected alot of debris to a different spot and put in a foothold edge set for beaver. skinned this one on the spot as truck was over 500 yards away and just didn't feel like packin it out.

beaver dam i hiked in about 500 yards to get to, but didn't set trap in obvious crossover as is illegal in this county park to do so...... so i set down stream in the deeper channel that curves its way down through the stream, even in wide open channels like this a beaver will still just duck its head... then set a channel above beaver dam that can be seen to the right of the ditch between the weedy area and the bank then about 200 yards north set a 330 under water at a crawl out that goes to a still standing corn field that was being combined TODAY so i know the beaver don't know it is picked yet, then set a castor mound set with 330 another 200 yards north hopefully will have catch pics tomm at these locations

when hitting the dispersal, i don't worry about whether i am spooking beaver in a colony unless i am actually trapping where a colony exists, spring is a good time to test sets and lures and not worry about it. beaver are on the move, talked to a game manager today and i may be recieving vehicle access to some areas that the beaver are tearing up that is usually closed to vehicles, told him ain't no way i am walking 500 to 1,000 yards in to trap beaver, just don't have that kind of time but he wants the beaver gone

i have used 11 gauge with no problems, usually not more than 3 or 4 beaver and i pull out of that spot anyway, cause it is only 5 or 6 trap checks, but if you are leavin it in and expect several beaver caught, nothing smaller than 9 gauge or using 1/8" cable drowners. i am goin to have some rebar drowners made this year, i like the performance of those above any other except not easy to pack in a basket

some rivers you have to have permission on whatever side of the river you are setting on, you can float and fish but if you place equipment there you have to have permission from the landowner that has the land on each side you set on. south skunk river is like that

4fur i agree, a lot less trap coyotes, i have had years of over 50 song dogs caught not shot, best year was 76 while down in mo. i only set 2 snares for coyotes this last year and both of them connected with good coyotes, but i did see some mangy ones. the ones with mange are a mercy killing as they likely won't survive any kind of a hard winter. i really do get the wanting the coyote dead, have too many farmer friends who are like that. i guess it is a problem to me that we have trappers that are trying to protect the fur the best we can and we are talkin about killin every friggin coyote we come across. but that is just me, the coyote is a beautiful fur piece and a great animal, a lot of dollars are sold off purchases to either chase, shoot, and/or trap the animal. i do see both sides but as a trapper that is trying to educate the public on trapping and hunting, just flat out killin coyotes to eradicate as many as we can isn't good in the public light, we become hypocrites ourselves to the public when we say we are for wildlife (which includes coyotes) and then shoot all we can just to get rid of them.
so.....i prefer to trap them and hunt them when they are better furred so at least the fur product of the animal won't go to waste unless they are producing damage which then, no choice but to take them out of the picture.
