For those of you who "don't know" what goes on or how things work at the ITA Director meetings, there is always a place around the room, or even at the table, if you wish and you can find out how "things" work........ We (Directors) are always looking for additional HELP from people in our Districts.... Our Secretary will be coming out with a written copy of what was discussed at every meeting if you want to know the details. Maybe you could get on her mailing list? Her address is on the ITA Website. THANKS Tex And that is why I went to the last meeting I wanted to see the meeting in action

SCOTT WEBB IS ALSO CONSIDERING TAKING THE VACANT SEAT FROM UP THAT WAY ALSO, IS WHAT I HEARD AT THE MEETING. PRIME EXAMPLE OF STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE, INSTEAD OF BEING A SPECTATOR IN THE STANDS AND HOLLERING AT THE VOLUNTEER REFEREE'S.......HOPE YOU DO STEP UP SCOTT, NOT THAT I AM TRYING TO HOLLER IN THIS POST, BUT EVERYONE NEEDS TO NOW THAT YOUR THINKING ABOUT IT TO PERSUDE YOU TO DO SO, WOULD ENJOY HAVING YOU ON THE BOD.

I'd like to see Scott W on the BOD. Certainly not a yes man but not an "It won't work pessimist either." Also young enough to remember what it was to be a beginning trapper, too!

Gene, I like your explanation about which route to take in order to make a change to the code vs. an administrative rule. My question still stands, how does a person tell the difference just by looking at the regulation booklet, or do you need a law degree or some kind of inside information to tell the difference. Kind of like looking at the fender of a pick-up and being able to tell if it has fuel injected or a carburetor. I feel like the dumb kid in the corner on this one. Scott p.s. ou812, I hear ya yellin'

www.legis.state.ia.us/IowaLaw.htmlThe above is the link to the legislative site, look on the left hand side when you open this page and you will see IOWA LAW, click on that and it will take you to a page that has Iowa code listings at the top, click on that, it will take you to a page that says iowa quick code retrieval. In that box type in 481A. That will take you to the whole "code" pertaining to wildlife, click on the very first one and then you can scroll through the whole thing and read all about it or you can go to 481A.82 and start there, I belive that is where the stuff about trappiong starts, however, you will have to research through, because it may not be listed on the index but added to one of the sections that really has nothing to do with the topic listed. That I believe is what they call an ammendment and may have been added on after some time. That is why they, being those that have fought for trapping rights, you don't want to necessarily open the code up. If you can't find it here, then it is probably admin code. I have no idea how one can be one thing and not the other. Hope this helps or confuses either way.

iayogi17 what was your opinion of the BOD meeting as an observer? Glad I went. there's a wealth of knowledge in the group and hope you guys come up with that book for new directors, that should help out a lot for the newbies and even the old hot topics. The only thing that I would like to see is a shift in making the members feel like they belong to something. other then the Fall Convention what do most members see the ITA doing? I know this takes work on both sides, like members wanting to go to a cook out like they had a Joe's. Trapping it's an obsession not just a passion

iayogi17, you are right on. i know for a fact that members want to feel more like they are members. i have been saying that for a long time, seemed like all I did as a member was send in my membership dues and get a small blurb in the back of the T&PC, until Dave and Minnnow (Joe) put together a small cookout. not a lot showed up for it but it was nice to get together and it will grow if they keep doing it. wayne and gene came to it to show support. the itt get together at Gene's place is very cool and a great opportunity for all. I think the ITA is making progress and some of the directors are listening.

We used to have a spring convention, but no one showed up. It was just one day, a Sat. Many directors also had district meetings but after a few people quit showing up. If you all talk to you directors and indicate you would like to have a district meeting I think that would be great. Our districts need to be stronger and participate at the conventions, sport shows and on the legislative level as a district. That would certainly make the ITA stronger and give its members a sense of belonging. Great strides can be made when we work together. By letting people (other trappers, directors, officers) know what you expect, want and are willing to work for everyone is benefitted.

Too much here for me to read all so sorry if I sound stupid. Been incredibly busy lately so not on here as much.
Those who think such issues are as simple as "just opening the code" and then you get to close it right back up again are flat out kidding themselves. You invite all sides to tack on their own amendments.
Guys, keep in mind that the great majority of people frankly could care less about trapping one way or the other. So if we get ourselves into a fight that we brought on ourselves our "backup" could be pretty sparse.
You pick your battles, especially when you are in a minority.
Directors who have been around awhile are not cowards, are not married to the DNR, and are not lazy. Some of them have been through these fights. These are fights that are unfair, unpredictable, and even with the truth on your side you can lose.
No matter how righteous your issue is, in the world of politics it can get distorted or taken advantage of, and it takes BIG money along with BIG balls to fight such battles.
Like a coyote, we should do a kick back and walk around such things if we are to keep our hides intact.

Great strides can be made when we work together. By letting people (other trappers, directors, officers) know what you expect, want and are willing to work for everyone is benefitted. The ITA and this web site (ITT) working together has helped in that sense. Thank you ADC and all ITA BODs that are on here.

yogi, Like I've said many times, I'm ignorant to the political, internal side of the ITA (and all other political rhetoric for that matter, I've always avoided anything political for a number of reasons) HOWEVER, if anyone wants to use this site to further the ITA, and ultimately keep or improve trapping in this state or others, I'd love for them to do it.
I can't afford financially to do much more to support them than paying my membership each year, so I hope you're correct and this place is helping out now and in the future.

I’m not a fan of politics either. I see enough of the dark side the way it is now and I wouldn’t want to volunteer for more

Yup politics stink. This site is great for getting out the word and involving trappers when the call goes out. Even tho we do not agree all the time we are all on the side of Iowa trappers and will do what it takes to keep trapping strong and safe. Great group
