Just wondering if ROW Trapping for Raccoon Inside of City Limits is legal & how many of you trap these locations?

Depends on a lot of variables including local ordinances. Also have to consider different cities. Are we talking Des Moines or Lansing? Some large cities have expanded their limits to include a lot of rural area. I grew up trapping within Waterloo's city limits and still trap Quad City area, though rarely in the ROW. I also use different methods/tactics in town vs. out in the country. Citiots are a lot less forgiving of what they see vs. farm people. And then there is the occasional discussion with a local law enforcement official.

Probably at the discretion of the municipality. But NOT a good idea.
Too many kids dogs and cats.

The location I had in mind is a bridge crossing over a stream on the edge of town near a trailer park with woods running along the stream on both sides that leads to the Mississippi River.
Am hesitant of setting a trap under a bridge that kids walk over going to school each day (from a small trailer park), but at the same time think it would be a productive location.
Would only use a DP if I did trap there...just wondering if it would be worth trying a location like this or if it would be wise to ask the local cop to get his opinion on the matter...or just forget about it all together for the greater good of the reputation of trappers everywhere.

Maybe run a slide wire so it will run under the bridge? Kids messing with an angry coon in a trap doesn't sound good.

Thanks for your thoughts & comments...Moving On sounds like the smart thing to do as to not invite trouble.

Call city hall and tell them you had a report of a skunk acting funny in the area. Volunteer your free services using pet and child proof traps and they will probably issue you permission or a permit if necessary. Just set under the bridge apron where the coon travel but is not visible to pedestrians. BTW, discharging firearms inside city limits is almost always illegal. So consider that if you do catch a skunk.

If you can slide it into water to drown, that is what I would do even with a DP. This of course after you are sure it is legal to set there of have a permit from the city to volunteer your services.
