So I see they signed it into law today. How soon now before we see any rules or regulations, limits, etc... I hope they didn't give away anything in exchange like LLL mentioned in an earlier post. Finally, how do you hunt the things? lol ~ADC~

Find a water tank and some ditch weed ready to seed. Set up a mojo dove and get ready to shoot. Make sure you take a LOT of shells cause it gets crazy when they are flying. I use to hunt them with my Father in law in NE. Bad thing is they don't taste to good. To me they taste somewhere between a michelin and a snow goose. LLL

Missouri DNR has some areas they manage for doves. Small fields planted to sunflowers, then mowed down, and it appears disked in a little, before the season opens. The ones I have hunted over really draw the birds.
Take the breasts (which obviously aren't very big), wrap in a little bacon and put on the grill. Not bad.

My understanding is that it's now up to the rulemaking of the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) to establish the season. Similar to how they approve seasons for the other species we hunt. The chair of the NRC, Greg Drees, is quoted in the Des Moines Register as saying he thinks it should go through the commission just fine. I spoke with Deputy DNR Director Pat Boddy yesterday and she says the DNR will have it on the fast track and we should have a season come September.
Might have a nontoxic shot requirement attached to it since they are a migratory gamebird? Some states require nontoxic, some don't. Of course last I checked steel was cheaper than lead anyway...
As for hunting, my best spot in KS was a small farmpond in the middle of a section near some roosting habitat. Excellet evening spot, buddy & I each would shoot a box of shells every night out!
Freshly-cut wheat fields are another hot spot for morning hunts. Hopefully the DNR & County Conservation boards will put in some food plots specifically for doves (wheat, sunflowers, millet, etc)...
