Passed my Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator test today so I don't have to bug my CO each time I get a beaver complaint. But, considering the fur market outlook for the next few years, I was thinking about making it more than just a beaver thing.
I know some of you guys do ADC work on here. Any suggestions?

When I was doing a lot of calls I found out ,there are alot of $100.00 plus coons. Sometimes it was better than the pool Biz.
Wayne, most people I worked for doing ADC work wanted a price on a complete job. Sometimes this required really thinking what its going to take. Sometimes your a carpenter and a mason man to land the job. (being a trapper is the easy part). Get paid well for what you are doing. Remember the problem is not in your backyard. Little old ladies were always hard for me to work for. I just could not charge them enough. Using a term Like "fair & reasonable" help me land a lot of jobs.
Turned a lot of work away during trapping & pool season. You'll have to balance that out for yourself.
Now will you need to have to take updated classes every year?
Congrads on passing its not easy either.

I down loaded he entire 50 page guidebook at the library a couple of weeks ago. I was told that there probably wouldn't be much work here in Henry County because the Mt P police force has their own nusiance control officer. Anyway -- is there more to the test than whats in the guidebook? I expected more information.

Just my local CO gave me a booklet to study from. The test was alot harder than I thought it would be. How many tries did it take you 4fur? ... and how much $$$ to grease his pockets. lol Joe, you don't need update classes, just pass the test and turn in your report of what you did throughout the year and pay your license renewal fee. I do very little ADC work. (contrary to my user name I know, didn't think that through, and it's too late now, lol) I'm very selective and only take the easy stuff for the most part. I'm not a bat expert (the mammal) so if its more than "come get this one out of the bedroom" I pass the job along. All I do as far as advertising is call the local police and give them my cards, they don't want to mess with this type BS so they gladly pass along my card. The bad part is they neglect to tell people I'm not a free service. ~ADC~

Bats, go for the bat exclusion, people don't like bats. True! There's a ton of money in that but it's nasty work if you have to clean up (where the big bucks lie). ~ADC~

At least that's how it used to be. ~ADC~

How many tries did it take you 4fur? ... and how much $$$ to grease his pockets. lol ~ADC~ Guess you didn't notice the ISU on my cap last Sunday! Of course that was the first time I took it. I watched my CO check my test but I guarantee he wanted me to pass it. He said they were getting pressure to license a NWCO in every county in Iowa and there isn't one listed for mine or the 3 counties around me. One friend said his CO gave the test open book. My CO didn't say who was putting the pressure on, may have been his wife who gets woke up in the middle of the night about man eating possums! Guess I did give him a pack of the FTA fur bearer cards for his 10 year old son I got at Central City last week but that was AFTER I passed. Just. There is another section to the study guide on fur bearer habits. I've been trapping since I was 6 so I didn't look at it. So when they got into a bunch of questions about gestation periods, litter size, breeding months, birthing months, age of animal when able to reproduce, etc. on the common fur bearer I started to sweat. But when the ground hog, badger, squirrel, bat, snake and reptile questions appeared, I had to take my sweatshirt off! It's a tough test but it's fair. And IMO it proves competence for anyone who passes it.

I am starting to feel OLD.
In 95 when I got first got my "Permit" which typed on a DNR letterhead the "test" was done at the Country Kitchen in Newton and consisted of a interview and a brief overview of some basic rules about ethics and a few specific rules on relocation.
I was told I was the 7th permit issued.
I worked the midnight shift and could do both. (factory at night animals on the way home)The change to a job with a 70 mile commute pretty much put the end to my trying to do both.
I would never have made it as a full time I have come to the realization that I Need Adult Supervision most of the time.
I still keep my permit up but pass almost all of the calls on.

I'm not too worried about scheduling my time since I'm already self employed but I know what you mean, Horn! What I'm more worried about is getting burned-out on trapping.

Anyone know where I can get a study guide on fur bearer habits? Have a good 1 just The one I'm talking about is on the DNR web site along with the 50 page Manual that you already have. It's called the NWCO Specie ID and Information Manual and is 48 pages. Click on the PDF icon to down load. Sorry for the confusion, Bob.
