I have really been trying to think of some ideas for making a mink bucket set similar to that people use for coon.......
I want something that I can use when the water freezes this way I can run a coon bucket line and a mink bucket line at the same time and extend my season.
I have seen some guys use those newspaper holes and I think thats not a bad idea but I tried looking for them and they seem to be hard to find around here. I also talked to Gerald Schmitt the mink trapper from Minn. alot of u should now him as he has a trapping supply bus. also. He seem to think that both side should be cut out so the mink will want to run through which makes sense knowing the minks habits as such.
but I thought why not a 6" around 12" long piece of the black flex PVC pipe with slots on each side to but a 120 coni guarding both ends.
But I want to here what u guys and gals have to say on the matter. Pics would be greatly appriated..........your trapper in arms , Hillbilly Ken

I work for Fareway Stores in Manchester iowa and we sold a ton of Oysters They come ina 1 gal plastic bucket . I got several from there and but a slot for the 110 to fit in it but have yet at least this year to connect. Just started this thou. They are about a foot deep . I just put jack mackeral in the back but that was when it was bone chilling cold when i tried this. Just an idea.

I have had success with 6inch black field tile 18 to 24 inches long. The way this tile is formed i can lock 3 corners of a 120 coni into the end of tile.

Jim Blakley on this forum makes a product called a pocket popper. This may be what you are looking for. His email is listed. Scott

IMO you might as well work on something easy like catching coyotes in 220's, HB Ken. Most mink will refuse a baited bodygrip set until it gets very cold. So unless you're up in Minnesota where mink are as thick as muskrats down here, it's going to be a very low percentage set. The set has to look natural and I think they enter the set more out of curiosity than hunger. Mink are incredibly efficient hunters and aren't often starved. Also, non-target coon are a problem in our area because they will reach in after the bait in a small bucket or container and you'll nail them in a 120 which usually results in a big mess. I have a non-bucket baited 220 set where I hang a bloody carp head from the top in the back. It is open in the back like Gerald Schmitt suggested to you. I use coni-pans or triggers on the bottom of the 220 in an "M" shape. I catch up to 20-30 mink a year in these sets but they are a coon set that actually takes an occasional aggressive buck mink. Used a smear of Hanson's coon bait that I got from demoman and buckfreak this year and slaughtered the coon but it must retard mink because I didn't even catch 10. I look for natural holes and set them up baited or blind. Don't want to discourage you HB Ken but don't want you wasting too much money and time on the project either. Here are a couple pictures of the set up a competitor uses. I suppose it might catch some mink if he used a different trigger configuration. The box has an open back, no floor and they will stack better than square boxes.

Just a thought Have you guys noticed how a rural mail box is made? Well (maybe) if you just use a piece of plywood for a bottom and make a top like a mailbox and make them where the top would come loose on 1 side so they would stack... Ya get the idea? have a good one just

Thanks Yogi for that. Looks like it could work but would have more confidence in it if he posted another video on how to skin 30 mink a day! lol Be kind of expensive to make a couple dozen but they look like they would last. Also will need to be checked every day. I dunno?

Might be ok for late winter trapping.Shove them in a snow bank and paint your conibear white ,break up the outline with grass ect.Put some good bait in it and maybe a little dry dirt infront of it for eye appeal.Might work for those places where you can't dig a pocket when iced up and froze.
