This year I have completely failed trapping mink. Last year I caught 8. This year I caught 1 by accident in a muskrat hole. I need help. What are the best ways to catch mink when it is frozen or thawed, what are the best baits, lures, and sets? It would be very helpful to me if you could give me any suggestions.

I doubt mink are worth more than coon unless you live in a place you can catch a bunch. It depends on where you live aw bad your coon are. Mine are still good for the most part. You are right about him still being able to learn though. Mink will probably be a tough sell at auction so do not plan on getting what you saw them sell for last year IMO. LLL

If you want to learn about mink then right now is a very good time to do so. Get on a set of mink tracks and follow them. They say you can learn more from watching aa mink for five minutes than you can learn in 5 years trapping them(or something like that). I would think the second best teacher would be tracks. I believe ive read on here that if you dont have food(minnows frogs crayfish etc...) then you wont have mink. Dont know where you are from coonkiller but in my area, depending how big my line is and population, 8 mink would be the number id expect. Some of my coon creeks hold mink most dont. As I get near a bigger body of water mink sign is more prevalent because 1 theres water 2 theres food. Go find some tracks and follow them

Mink are considered land mammals. There diet consists of a lot of rodents as well as fish or frogs. LLL

there are more mink in iowa than trappers give them credit for...last mink I got was last week and he was at least 500 yards away from a creek/water source....they will be in ditches that are dry just as much as they are in the bigger waterways...sets for them changes when in dry creeks but they can be caught

The mink population around me is down quite a bit. I think that is a result of the severe flooding this spring. I could be wrong though it wouldn't be the first time.
