Do you have tracks on the ice/snow? If so, you could probably get him with a snare. Look for spots where he is going around or under. Sticks or logs going over an area he goes under is a good spot to hang one. Just anchor it really solid to a tree. May even add an extension with another swivel.

a 220 set right on his tracks in a narrow spot on dryland is something to consider. Forget the bucket idea.

Read an article by Noonan either in TPC or the Post about sinking 220 buckets under water that I always thought might be productive here in Iowa. Anyone else read the same article or have done it?

Strategically placed snares work well. Just make sure there loaded, and have multiple swivels.

Snares sounds Like the way to go then Question 2 How do you set your snares for otter Hight? and what size loop? Iv caught them in snares before but it was in a coon snare and purely luck the rest i caught were in 330's

I run about a 5" loop (small) about 3" off the ground. You can really guide an otter.
I sometimes will use poke sticks under the loop just to force his head through. I neck snare around 90%, or at least I did when I used to put up numbers of them.

I put out some 220s on the otter trails where they Necked down i also used a few back up snares in other spots. Do river otter actually have a den? if so i think i found one when i was setting up a creek there were tons of tracks coming from it some so fresh it had to be this am otherTracks were Old and down in the ice. THe otter went to the corn feild at one time and came back i was assume it happened lastnight. Even Found a beaver lodge that has been working hard everynight pretty awsome to see set that up as well.

Any old or even used beaver den any otter going through will visit. The bottomline is just try and wait them out. If they come through about any set will catch them.
