What are you guys catching you're coon with sweet baits, fishy or meaty. I just switched my line over to coon and fox a few days ago but am having a heck of a time trying to catch any. I know they are running because I am seeing fresh tracks any suggestions? I am using fish in some and fruity in others.

I am also curious about this. I have some pocket sets out with a mixture of tuna, oreos, peanut butter, chocolate syrup, an egg, cinnamon toast crunch for bait. Is this too much stuff? Sorry Wez didn't mean to step on your toes or anything.

Sorry Wez didn't mean to step on your toes or anything. Well if he don't get in your trap he should be dead nearby of diabetic shock or something. I've had the best luck recenly just setting on trails which isn't great but I catch 1 or 2 here and there and I only have about 10 sets now so I can check them before work. Most of my baited sets just sat there and rooted after the first 2-3 days of the season.

I have had luck with DP's using several baits so far this year. Some seem to attract the non targets a little more than the others (possums and cats). I have used:
Death Warrant Black Label Black Magik ADC Trail Mix Coon Chum
Chum has had the least results but worked well in a couple barns the neighbors wanted me to help get rid of some coons for them. I use fish oil/salmon oil mix for trailing scent no matter what bait I used. Black Magik by far has the most non target catches and is the most expensive. I also use several baits at each stop and alternate each day so if I used trail mix and death warrant yesterday I use black label and black magik today. I always set multiple traps I won't just set one DP I always set at least two because a caught coon is the best attraction to other coon there is in my opinion. Also tried out that sweet and sour green label trailing scent Kaatz bros made for this year. Seemed to work well, it's a sweet smelling trailing scent versus a fish oil type.

go get ya some sardines in oil and salmon flavored cat food, mix together and add in some peanut butter once heated up so it is liquid and you can mix all together...gives you a thick paste...also I usually add an ounce or 2 of anise oil to spice it up

Sardines or anything fishy in my dps with a pile of marshmallow in front of it for attractant. Coon love it, and some skunk.

I put oily mackerel and sardines in my pocket sets last night at a location with about a million tracks and came up with nothing this morning. Maybe adding cat food would help?

I use only Dp's on my line. I am showing my 7 year old son how to trap. We use Duke, Grizz, and Z traps. We like all three. We use floating fishfood mixed with some pancake syurp. We get it by the gallon at sams club. And use fish oil for a trailing scent. We have caught 90 coons as of this morning. We run a short line we check before i go to work and he is off to school.

I will chime in here and just give my thoughts, make sure you do not over think too much, keep it simple, just keep in mind you want something that they have not seen or smelled, that starts their curiosity, then it has to be something they will want to eat..........take into consideration using us for an example, too plates setting there, one has froot loops, mixed with oatmeal, and syrup, or a nice steak setting there that has been marinated to perfection, which one would you take, same concept

ADC trail mix is all that gos in mine and done great on them up over 60 in dps Good advice there. I had a guy pm me that he had just caught his 30th coon on his first gallon bag of my trail mix. I like experimenting with stuff too but there's something to be said for using proven products as well. (not just mine either, there are others out there that are proven produce good too.) Whatever you all are using I hope your doing well. ADC

Don't know how many coon I caught with a gal of your Trail mix but worked good for me. I experimented this year with several different baits for DPs and have several I will not use again. Sometimes it as important to know what don't work.

I'm having success with DPs using the same bait I use at my pockets. Sweet feed, fish cat food, feed grade molasses, and liquid smoke. A few bottles of clam juice once in awhile to spice it up.
Only problem with this bait is it will freeze solid as a rock.

ADC I took at least 80 and maybe over a hundred on the first gallon of Trail Mix, but I cheated by cutting it with FPF and also mixed in quite a bit of Demoman's soaked corn formula. I ran this mix in everything I had out early(pockets, DPs and cages). Only caught 1 unprime mink and I bet I'm running over 10:1 and more like 20:1 coon to possum. I love lure but haven't used a drop of coon lure yet. I see Northern Iowa Fur is selling something that looks a lot like Gene's formula. It is made by Brad Mohr (IAYogi on here)...

coon bait?

I tried 4 different DP baits this year and did it as scientific as possible. I would put at least 2 DPs on every trail and noted which was closer to the den tree. Every trail was guarded with a snare to make sure nothing walked by. My homemade cherry bait never had a walk by, ADC's mix was 2nd, fish with 3rd, juice from smoker was 4th (which surprised me because the pre bait stations were completely torn up with the smoker juice). The last 2 had walk bys caught in snares, the first 2 never did. This was based on one week and about 100 caught coon.
