Just wondering what most people do after a rain or snow and your dry type bait in your dp has gotten wet. Whats best dump the old and start over or add some new on top? Whats your thoughts?

I just add to it, if it has been that heavy of a rain usually some of it has washed out so i just touch it up with some more bait and a shot of oil or trailing scent around it.

Don'y be so grumpy, Larry. Bet you are sore and tired and today will be a muddy, greasy mess. But you could just be leaving for a real job asking if the customer wants small, medium or large. lol Hope your knocking the sheet out of the coon! This is the best thing I have come up with to clean traps of mud after a catch, or wet bait tjk2... Make several because they are easy to lose. Mud and anything wet will freeze so you want dry bait that will not effect the trigger action on nights like the next 2 when it will get into the 20s. If the trap is really muddy, wash it in a nearby creek. That is why I like stakes better than Pogos for DPs because it is easier to move traps around after catches or when mice start hitting them. Maybe someone has a better idea but this is wnat I do.

Several DPs so full of mud I had to pull them and replace with new one. Even the dry land coon were muddy today.

Paper cup on DP. Keeps out rain AND mice. And adds eye appeal.

Paper cup on DP. Keeps out rain AND mice. And adds eye appeal. Tuesday morning I put styrofoam cups on all my dps. They work great, I normally use golf balls, but they don't keep all the rain out.

I just spent all day cleaning out and rebaiting my dog proofs. Wet bait and freezing temps don't go together well.

I spent about 10 minutes with a garden hose cleaning the mud from 2 dps. Just amazing how much mud a coon can pack into/around one of those lil traps. I spent about the same amount of time cleaning up the coon too.lol

Wet bait will keep working fine unless it freezes. I pushed my luck one too many nights and have a pile of froze up Z's to clean out rebait and cover like I should have in the first place.

After cleaning with a screwdriver I took several to the car wash, now they are ready to reset and go again.

Realized also Styrofoam cups work much better than golf balls keeping water out.
I dump any soggy bait out of DP's & rebait with fresh bait...soggy bait on ground still acts as an attractant. Also use a butter knife to clean mud out of dp traps & around springs...a small stick usually found in set area to unplug drain hole.

White Styrofoam cups work great to mark your traps also. Since I know where my traps are and don't want all the jackboots to know I use 16 oz clear plastic cups. Yes they are more expensive but if you lose a dp because of it being stolen then you are out 12.00 and that buys several hundred cups. LLL

I'm using Bridgers and so far have not had any issues with freezing triggers or getting packed with mud. Had multiple catches yesterday that were an absolute muddy mess got the coon out flipped the trap over tapped it a couple times against a stick or rock and the inside was clean, dropped some new bait in and away I went. Took forever to wash all the mud out of the coon but next to nothing on the trap.

I built my own dps. Much like a Duke but more like a Purdy. Honestly they were solid mud looking like a football. The coons were so slick I couldn't hold on to them. just
