What kind of sets do you make for coon on land? I always seen coons roaming my timber while i'm out deer huniting, The one that came by today looked like a rootbeer barrel. He's been eating good. I tried the bucket with 220 a couple years ago but didn't have any luck. Also they seem to like deer pee that's the 2nd one that has came right to my stand shortly after I've walked in with it on my boots.

Don't have DPs. Other than getting some any other option.

You can use your 220's in the trails, I am not the best at it but I know many guys take a lot coon this way. I f you have footholds a dirt hole is a good option.

And it sounds like you need to add some deer pee to your sets.I would go with dirt holes and buckets. Have you thought about trying some snares?

Snares work well for coon as well for fox, coyotes & cats. If ya make a dirt type of k9 set, coon can't stay out of them either.

Thanks for the input. Spent most of my money just getting the basics and a couple doz. traps already. I did get a dozen snares but there for beaver, my 5 yr old wants to catch one so well give it a shot. Might get some snares for coon after our REFi gets done and we have all our remodeling bills put into one loan and have more cash freed up. Anyone have a brand they like or have some homemade ones they sell? My beaver ones are Thompsons if i remember right.

I would go with bucket sets.

bucket sets will weed out every possum and skunk in the county before you catch coon. Waste of time typically and not as productive as snares and dog proofs

I think 220's are better for barns and trails. I have caught many coon this way. I use 220 stands and find narrow places in trails. Then cover the top with dead grass. Works like a charm. Make sure there are no pets in the area. Can't wait for Saturday!!
