Keep in mind the likely coyote. I'd recommend a 1.75 - 2 rj cs. to target fox with incedental yote catch likely.

Make sure you use an offset jaw to reduce damage to the foot

set snares I about guarantee you that will be how you catch your first one.
for someone just starting out I recomend larger jaw spread say a bridger #3. you will not have to be as good at getting the fox to step on the center of the pan. Only buy the 2 coil traps to start #3 four coil could break fox leg. then in the future you can easily four coil them if you want to target coyotes.
Or if you have the money MB 650's are about the best dirt hole trap ever build IMO. Since these only come four coiled make sure to have a wide laminated jaw or you will break legs.

Work right out of box and unlike all the cheap crap much easier for someone new (no need to work on them). Work for fox, coyote, bobcat, coon. Already night latched out of box. Great trap

I like to use the MB 550s, they will also hold coyotes if you happen to get one of them! Best traps out there if you ask me

I've caught several fox in #2 & #3 bridger and have yet to have a broken leg. They are offset and laminated 4X4.

I've caught several fox in #2 & #3 bridger and have yet to have a broken leg. They are offset and laminated 4X4. I have had several broken legs with four coiled regular jaw traps especially MB650. Could be my longer chain length too if they get running and hit the end. Never had broken leg when traps are laminated.
