Golf balls do help but will not stop all bait theft. As far as wiring them on I really would suggest not to. They will be a mess when you catch a coon. LLL

Golf ball didn't work for me. Field mouse can knock it off a Z trap almost as easy as a coon. I know some guys use paper cups over the trap - though I'd think any mouse worth his salt could work through that no problem. I think I'm going to try corncobs.

I haven't tried it yet (couldn't trap last year) but I've several golf balls that I screwed a short piece of dowell to. Dowell fits inside trap so its not as easy to knock off. I don't think mice will be able to get it off. Also saves hands from having to compress every trap spring. just

Doesn't Z-traps make caps for this? Has anyone tried them?

I used zcaps last year and found that if I attached the cap to the chain with a steel fishing leaded a rabbit come down the trail caught the leader and knocked the cap off the trap. I use nylon string to tie the cap to the chain and never had any more losses or difficulties of false removals. The caps need to be placed in the trap when you pick the traps up to prevent a tangled mess which I learned the hard way. My biggest problem was they do not fit all of my homemade traps. I caught a season high of 6 mice in DPs last year.

I use a golf ball that I have attached to my trap with a piece of 1/8 inch cable. I never lost one last year this way and I think the golf ball gives the coon something to chew on until I get there. The cablws seem to hold up pretty well too.

limited experience in dps, just over 50 coon out of 14 dps, at first part of year I tried the golf balls on, found it to be a hassle, then I just filled my dps with the bait, I use whole kernel corn...1 gallon mixed with 1 ounce of cherry or anise oil worked fine, even in the frozen temps. mice took some and caught a squirrel by both front feet which was comical in itself. but didn't deter me from catchin the coons

So you guys had this problem too...? Its kinda weird I only had problems in certain spots. And I use marshmellows w/ fish oil. I even used those jumbo marshmellows to plug the top but some of those mice wanted it all lol.

same problem here. only 2 mice last year but about 6 chipmunks. started using golf balls on my duke dp's and didn't have any problems but i also didn't start using the golf balls till late winter so not sure if it actually worked or if the mice just weren't moving. i don't attach the golf ball to anything. have yet to lose one. but i also put all my dp's on grapples so the coon isn't messing around at the set for very long.
