So who is doing that this year??
We were discussing this summer at an FTA meeting, that ITA should get with FTA and hire Ron Andrews to do this. He knows the political end of it, is trustworthy, and knows trapping. Dave Plueger and I were talking about that.
Any news along those lines???

The ITA has hired a lobbist.

Who is doing it Gene and any issues on the horizon?
Not a friendly environment for us right now I am thinking.

Probably won't get the spelling right. Jim Obradavich. I think he will be at our directors meeting the 3rd. Don't know of any pending leg. The roadsides are always a concrn. When prices increase snares in the road ditches always cause problems. It is just a few that make the rest of us pay for their greed.

To clarify that, its a few who do not follow the regs who cause us problems, not ditch snarers as a whole. I've been snaring the ditches in my area for years without causing anyone any problems because I follow the laws. This year it seems to be a foothold on some ladys cat that made the DM Register thats stirring up a hornets nest. The people who snare the ditches just seem to be the easiest group to point the finger at when things start to get messy. JD Rogge

That is correct, just a few cause the problems. All it takes is a limited number of complaints and we find ourselfs defending our privilege to trap not only public property but every where. As a director and /or officer for the past 30+ years with the ITA , I have heard most of the complaints, written many letters, attended and spoken at many legislative committee meetings, DNR meetings and public hearings. As our numbers continue to decline it is increasingly more difficult to defend our position. For those that have not been actively involved by contacting (writing or calling) their Rep or Senator or attending the public hearings, now would be a good time to start. It is easy to set on the sidelines and condemn and criticize. If anyone needs or wants help with this process I would be happy to help you.

I am in regular contact with them on various issues, but will not bring this one up until it becomes an issue. No sense in planting ideas in anyone's head, when this may just die off.
Seems all they are interested in this Legislative season is bottle bill, what to do with thier private parts, and Fair Share.
I would worry more about it getting snuck in through some amendment of some sort.
Would we have Farm Bureau on our side Gene? Pretty powerful group there. Craig Lang, President of Farm Bureau has a son who is a trapper.

Farm Bureau has not been on our side the last few years. I think the members in general support us but the leadership has leaned the other direction. I don't know of anything that is pending at this time. Just look to Neb and you can see how one person can screw it up for everyone.
