How would you guys go about live trapping some woodchucks from around some lake homes? Any idea on what kinda bait?

Comstock cages are the only way to go. Bait and wait usually gives poor results at best. Bait does not last long in this hot weather and neither do the chucks when/if caught.

Blind sets with Comstocks at den entrances or crawl toughs is the best way. Never really had much luck with baited sets.

I use Bob Jamesons woodchuck formula two with great results.

I too am having luck with unbaited Comstocks. Old woodchuck poop in the trap doesn't seem to hurt. Don't know if it helps, but have had enough repeat catches to know it doesn't bother chucks from different location(family groups).

When I catch a chuck I gather up some of the dirt and store in coffee cans and use it at other sets using the cages. Chucks are very territorial(tip from Jim Comstock). Before we had a conversation about ways to improve my catches of chucks I washed the traps after each catch, thus I was making the next catch harder. After using Jim's advise things picked up tremendously at the slow traps.

Does anyone around here sell Comstocks or buy them direct?

Jim made a deal with Tomahock? cage company to manufacture his traps so I don't know what the best method of purchase will be. You can contact Jim at his web site Comstock cages.

I use apples or cabbage, trail into the trap little pieces including down the hole...trap set as close to hole as you can, prefer a positive set if at all possible, the koonce cage from trap and trail is the best ghog positive set trap I can find. I also use Jameson's formula one and two for lures

I used a live trap with carrots set at the hole. I caught 7 at one setup, over a couple of weeks.

I've had good results using fresh cucumbers and a few drops of magnolia essence.
