Has anyone used a GPS for running road sets? I lost a few traps Last yr by not remembering where I had set them and just wondering if a GPS would be helpful to mark sets that I make.

I go old school small notebook and pen. It makes it easier and faster when you pull traps up.Better than punching in letters and numbers in gps.My two cents.

I use a note book also. I'm on all private property so I use flagging too.

I use an etrex or somethink like that...I wouldnt go any other way..sits on my middle console of my truck hop in the truck and I hit 3buttons or so and it shows how far to the next spot..takes a few days to get use to working it but definitely pays for itself IMO

Etrex , and a notebook here. I hit the mark button on the etrex, it automatically assigns the numbers consecutively, I write the numbers down in my notebook, and mark how many traps, or snares on which side of the road. Really speeds up the process for me

notes, notes, and notes in a book. a gps just gives you a spot and I can write faster then typing in to a gps or just get a trapping style like set every bridge on say road. I trapped a 5 mile long marsh in ND from boat for rats with no notes and in two checks I had then all in my head- and I'm not talking 1 or 2 hundred traps try more. it was all style

Ordered mine on Walmart.com. No typing involved, just hit the same button twice, it marks the spot and assigns a number. I have all the numbers written down ahead of time so all I have to do is write what I have there. I put a check mark by it after it's checked. After a couple days you get into a rythm and don't even hardly look at it. Not sayin that GPS is the only way to go, just works good for me. Speeds up check time drastically for me, which in turn gives me more time to put more out after checking everything else.

I mark all my spots on my Garmin Dakota. I can do it by memory real easy when road trapping, but running a river line (particularly if you travel to a new stretch) can be a lot harder. I mark them all and look at the GPS to confirm where I am going for the first day or 2. After that it's in my head, and I still take the GPS just in case, but don't use it much.

Plain old note book for me, always leave a couple blank lines in between sets u write down so if u move them or add another u have room for more notes and there still kept in order.

I make copies of county maps, and mark on the copies. Real Easy.

I used some of both. I had maps printed out and marked for pre-staking. Once the trap was in the ground I would mark it on my GPS that was mounted on my dash. All I had to do was push a single button twice at soon as I threw it in drive and I was on was on my way. Didn't take me any additional time since I was already on my way to my next stop.
Pressed another button to pull up the full map when the time came to check the next day.
Notebooks get muddy, wet, and I seem to take forever to find one of the dozens of pens that are floating around my truck.

I think I am gonna get the etrex 20. I can remember most if my sets but when I get into new areas and also ruining my line early morning before light it can get very hard to remember where they are. Everything looks different in the dark
