Which type (brand, style and size) do you use and why?

Necker. Works well for me and everyone else that has used them. Use the sharp side for the neck/back area. Then dull side for everything else. Bought a beam because it was only $20.

Knecker knife and I made my own beam I also use a Necker knife and built my own beam. Necker knifes are readily available from trapping suppliers and they work well. It may take you a few coon to get the feel for the knife, but once you get used to it, it will perform fine.

Made my own beam. Use an Iowa English for Beavers and a black all steel one for coon. Both about 50 or 60 bucks when I bought them.
If you have a fur buyer close, stop by and see what they use and how their set up looks. It may not be for you but will give you some ideas and you will be able to see how the room is laid out. Depending on your space and what animals you do the most work with you will want to set up something that works for you.

I have only used the Blue English system. It works good for me and easy on the back.

I also use the blue English but only the English knife on beaver. I switched to the necker knife on coon with the English beam. A lot lighter knife and easier fit for me. No need to switch knives this way just flip it for dull pushing and flip back to shave. Like anything it's an art you gave to get used to.

Wiebe knives, both fleshing and skinning because the fit my hands and were reasonably priced. Made my own board this last weekend from a 2x6

Necker and a modified beam I purchased from John Epler. Just got a Weibe and will be interesting to see how it fits the beam. Only issue with it is it only has one scrapping edge.

Beam I made 25 years ago. Scraper is a knockoff bought from teg a couple of years ago. Favorite knife from Bud K catalog. Someday I'll figure how to use them. just
