Trapping coyotes year round

4fur i agree, a lot less trap coyotes, i have had years of over 50 song dogs caught not shot, best year was 76 while down in mo. i only set 2 snares for coyotes this last year and both of them connected with good coyotes, but i did see some mangy ones. the ones with mange are a mercy killing as they likely won't survive any kind of a hard winter. i really do get the wanting the coyote dead, have too many farmer friends who are like that. i guess it is a problem to me that we have trappers that are trying to protect the fur the best we can and we are talkin about killin every friggin coyote we come across. but that is just me, the coyote is a beautiful fur piece and a great animal, a lot of dollars are sold off purchases to either chase, shoot, and/or trap the animal. i do see both sides but as a trapper that is trying to educate the public on trapping and hunting, just flat out killin coyotes to eradicate as many as we can isn't good in the public light, we become hypocrites ourselves to the public when we say we are for wildlife (which includes coyotes) and then shoot all we can just to get rid of them.

so.....i prefer to trap them and hunt them when they are better furred so at least the fur product of the animal won't go to waste unless they are producing damage which then, no choice but to take them out of the picture.

Could not agree more. Last few years I've killed more coyotes than turkeys while turkey hunting.

Question was asked about year 'round coyote trapping. That's the way it was until red fox started going up in value in the 70's. Shortened seasons were put on fox during that time and a coyote trapping season established to keep fox from being illegally harvested while "coyote trapping".
