How many of you do it ? Is it worth it? Yes it is worth it unless your like that kid on Capital One's commercial and you don't like money. It is almost the standard way of doing coon. LLL

I do it, but I consider it the right cut verses the wasteful cut.

I talked to a guy last night that doesnt think so. Gary Groenwald. Before I explain this is not a Groenwald bash it just shows that all buyers like their fur put up in certain ways. Gary says it is just extra butt fur and figured about a size less on them. He would rather have them on wire not wood and likes that tapered look on the bottom not tacked straight across like wood. I put them up exactly like Greg Schroeder showed at the NTA Conv. It was interesting talking with Gary and how he wants them put up. Took time to explain it. Like many of you know not all buyers want the same put up so do what works for you.

My favorite fur buyer actually puts every hide on a board and measures them. He doesn't just flip them in the air and take a guess on how big they are so the money cut is very important to my wallet. I don't think its the fur buyer so much as who the fur buyer sells to. Groenwald seems to have their own market.

Awfull funny I watched one of Groewald's buyers measure about 11 hundred coon that were put up on wood and skinned with the money cut and he didn't down size any or pay less money for them.

Jayme, there are measurement marks on the bench in Groeny's truck. When you've handled literally millions of coon there's no need to measure every one. Heck, even I can glance at a skinned coon and tell you if its a 2X or 3X etc. and be right on most of the time.

Heck, even I can glance at a skinned coon and tell you if its a 2X or 3X etc. and be right on most of the time. There could be 1/2" difference in length, I bet many that would just make the 3x mark by a hair go into the 2x pile, I'm betting way more than the ones that are just a hair short going into the 3x pile. A big heavy weight green skin with a pile of fat on it gets you better prices than the ones that pull fairly clean and don't feel like as much in your hands even though they are the same length, color etc... not just Groenwald though I've seen it at other buyers as well. Another good reason to have your fur all put up to avoid the guessing games. ~ADC~
