Virtually no beaver around here right now due to the flooding last year and the drought this summer. But they are filthy east of here! One county has a $20 bounty and I have two land owners willing to pay for removal, so I decided to change gears and get some beaver traps out yesterday. Set 12 traps including 2 big bodygrips and a 280. One 660 was knocked over and a 1216 was avoided. But the 280 which fit perfectly in a submerged tube held this big, fat sow by the front foot...
Good swivels don't cost, they pay! Pretty lucky!
I set 14s complete with breast sticks but often catch these trap shy ones by the hind foot...
Again, pretty lucky! And another pretty lucky!...
And another pretty lucky!...
I did catch some the way the book says to take them. These weren't going any where...
This was part of a triple...
If you look closely, you can see him in the back ground at the top of the picture...
And the group shot...
My coon line was pretty pathetic but I caught my first mink of the year in a water set I made yesterday. While returning home I was thinking of how luck I really was to toe catch 5 beaver and not lose a one. It also occurred to me that life is good and I am so lucky to have my health and family: Trapping is an important part of my life but it is suppose to be an enjoyable part of my life! So what if every trap isn't full or if I get thieved of some fur and traps.
I had a great idea! I took all of today's catch into the route buyer and sold it...
