If you find the underwater runs they work great.

I would recommend them without a doubt. Kid is up to about 50 or so and half are in his colony traps. I would recommend paying and getting the larger sizes though....3 or 4 at a time pay for them.

As long as the water is deep enough in the run.

If you check out my thread "Pics First wkend" there are a few pics. In one pic there is a 6" and a 5" each with rats in them. The 5" can fit inside the 6" allowing me to pack twice the traps. On that particular set the run was to wide for one so i set both side by side on the bottom of the channel and filled in the rest with sticks. I wish i would not have been lazy and went back to the truck for a third trap because when my traps where full the rats moved the sticks.
Does any one know if there is a company that makes a 7" then i could pack 3 together?
I haven't used collapsable yet maybe they are even better?

I love colony traps. 4 rats in this 5x5 colony trap. The next day I caught 6 rats in it. I didn't think you could fit that many in it. It was packed tight. 6x6 colony in a rat run. 7x7 collapsible 8x8 collapsible My boy with a nice rat. Colony traps are very easy for kids to set and check. Get yourself an assortment of sizes and remember, bigger is not always better. The most rats I ever caught in a colony were caught in the smallest trap size.

Just so you all know i make and sell colony traps, i think mine are 24" long and they fold up so that they dont take up so much room in the truck! PM me if any body wants to ask about them

Ben, lanphier, I suggest you make your own. They are super easy to make! Get some 1x1" or 1x2" x 24" widrh wire, 16ga. is heavy enough& easy to cut/work with. For a 7x7" trap. cut a chunk of wire 28" long, make a right angle bend every 7", join the open side every inch or two, tightly. (the minie hog rings that are sold to fasten trap tages to chain work great, but plane wire will work too). Cut doors 7x8 or 9", angle doors to center of trap& fasten loosly to top of trap, making sure they swing freely. (you might have to do a bit of bending to get them swinging free) Wa La, you just made a colony trap! Don't think you have to make them square, 6x12", 7x9"etc. to fit the runs you have! Good luck! Dennis
