Was just wondering what some of you do for trapping mink? i've only ever gotten one and it was by accident. I have access to all the free lumber i want therefore i was thinking about making mink boxes with 110's in them? What do you guys mainly use for bait for mink? and are there any certain places you look for when setting your boxes
Any help would be great (pics of your sets too if you have them!) THanks

I don't think box's are a very productive method mink trapping tool . I think you would be better off digging pockets in the stream banks and baiting them with fish .

Never had any luck with mink boxes. I like pockets for both mink and raccoons. Bottom edge and blind sets are also very effective. Mega Mink methods by Gerald Schmitt and Bottom edge mink set by Ken Smythe are both good books.

X2 Boxes will take mink but also attract coon which doesn't work with a 110 or 120. Like Jim said, pocket sets (baited with a fist sized chunk of carp works best for me). Blind sets located in cement box culverts or tubes with the pan about an inch below water surface will take a lot of mink, too. Set the trap where the mink is forced into the water or tight up against the wall. Don't be afraid to drag in a concrete block, rock or piece of sod cut with a tile spade to bed the trap in the correct water depth.

Thanks for the info guys anything you all look for when finding places for mink sets? I'm not really sure what to look for besides tracks, i have a creek i can trap but it never gets very deep and i'm curious to see if it holds any rats and/or mink!

Keep an eye out for small trails up high on the bank underneath overhanging grass, too, when digging pockets. Set your 110's here and you don't have to worry about carrying in a box built for the same purpose.

I agree with the guys above. I'd just like to add you really will be doing yourself a huge favor to watch Joe Aschelman's demo at 5pm on Saturday at the ITA convention. He's an excellent mink trapper!!!! and a great guy too!
