how many times a year does coon chewout, i dont snare much and used to a little more, like traps much better and just had happen this morning with 3/32 swiveled snare on stake with some things for him to chew, checked just after sunup.heard was rare but donot believe as have had happen once a year and when doing more snaring, several or more, brand new snares, should sell most snares and stakes or trade and buy traps, i never thought alot of snares

Average about 1 chew out in 100 live caught coons in snares. Go ahead and sell your snares. Set your $12 DP's in the ditch out in the wide open instead. See how that works out for ya. lol Or just pass on them coons, you don't want too many anyway right? ~ADC~

I have spots in high vis/theft areas that get snares as anything else would grow legs by morning.
Of course dry 220'd stuff is great, but I usually use the type of trap that fits the location.
I get a few chew outs a year just a part of running snares, I suppose.

I didn't notice the snare around this coon's neck until I got home. He did not chew out of the 220... I have never had a coon chew out, but I have never intentionally snared a coon. ;D

i don't let trap theft scare me from setting a certain location, i set it with the trap or snare that best fits the situation, i am setting myself up for a better catch percentage because i believe i have the best set there

I snare around 50 coon a year, the rest of mine are trapped and i would say i get one chew out per year! Coyotes seem to chew out alot if you dont lay somthing around like wood for them to chew on!

true but seems like about 1 in 30 chewout, really not alot you can do,i hope the coon is able to get snare off, probly about about 50 per cent chance is able to get snare though lock by scratching or bite though it, probly would not make sense to sert the trail up on monday,i got 4 coon in 220s earlier there,a hotspot by woods cornfield and stream, that competiors forgot about for a couple years and were not at this season

i had 2 traps stolen this year and my fault for putting them so close to where a guy had his minnow trap, but the old saying comes true, nothing ventured nothing gained, too many trappers out there afraid of johnny sneakum to set quality locations

I set snares anywhere legal and ethical to do so. If they get stolen I lose about $1.50 including the stake. If they don't I get the coon. I know for a fact I'm WAY WAY ahead money wise by doing this. ~ADC~

What does your size have to do with the "midnight stalker" who steals trap and coon before you arrive?

found the coon that chewed out today, went back and set a dp since such a good spot and when leavingabout 20 yrds away in ditch seen a coon laying on back, thought was a road hit but had a snare on him and birds at his neck, dont know what did him in,but am salvaging the hide, coon did not pull support collar off so no swiviling. had trouble with loose collars so pinched them in a vise
