I am in the market for getting a new trapping gun and was wondering what everyone preferred for caliber make and model.

A J.C. higgins model 99 in 22 is a very good trapline firearm.

Glock 17 with 22lr conversion, fiberoptic & tritium sights will glow for 10+ years, blackhawk serpa holster. Heritage much more economical and able to shoot shorts.

I have a 39A also and they are great guns. I have a 3 to 9 redfield on the 39A and hit golf balls at 100 yards. I relay enjoy both the buckmark and the 39A. Both are reliable and very accurate.

I wouldn't part with my 39A, getting a little worn though. I need to find a good deal on another one. I use a 10/22 for a coon hunting gun, mostly cause the magazine makes for easy unloads and reloads.

Do you have any trouble with your conversion kit jamming, and what type of ammo do you shoot. I have a G17 also and have never had a malfunction with any type of 9mm ammo, but my 22 kit jams a lot.For my trapline gun I shoot an RG snub nose revolver which I like because I can put it in my pocket

I have shot the Ruger mark1's and 2 and like them both very much. I would get the heavy barrel with either and you would be very happy.

The Ruger mark 1 and 2 are nice and seem to be accurate. Just a pain to reassemble after cleaning........... if you are into that

I like my dads old solid frame H&R 9 shot revolver. ( I don't know how the break open ones hold up) 4"bbl.,(I wish it was 6"). Fixed sights, but good enough to bang a bunny or ditch tiger out to 20 yds or so. Like most older revolvers, the firing pin is a spur on the hammer, so ya should carry it either on an empty/fired hole in the cyl, or with firing pin in a detent between rounds in the cyl. I'v seen them go for less than $100 at gun shows. Dennis

A 22 is plenty for anything we have here in Iowa. As far as make & model it really doesn't make any difference what others like. What do you like? What feels good in your hand? And what can you afford? Whatever it is become proficient with it. Practice .
Personally I like a revolver. Just because of the simplicity of it.

Personally I like a revolver. Just because of the simplicity of it. just x2 simplicity, safety, and dependability. 9-shot, cylinder folds out for easy loading/unloading, small & accurate. I shoot shorts too, quieter and fun to shoot. ~ADC~ ~ADC~

i have dropped this gun in the bottom of cricks more than once. keep it oiled and it keeps working, i clean the firing pen every season otherwise i get some misfires. it is small and can shoot LR HP. i keep the extra clips on my belt in a old cell phone case. i love this little gun.

Does anyone know the law for having a holstered pistol, while driving. Is it allowed for trapping if you have a permit to carry. They didn't give much info for this in the class. Would save alot of time casing it up, especially if your in and out alot.

That was my main reason for getting my CCW permit. ~ADC~
