I have heard of people catching coyotes in trails and cubbies with 220 conibears, has anyone ever caught a coyote in a conibear?

I have.......... Only once though. It was caught in a well used crawl-under where coon, possum and skunks had been caught before. The 220 did its job and the yote was DOA when I got there.

my first was in a crawl under ...it's about the only spot you'll ever catch one in a 220 ...it rare to get one to stick his head in one ....fox on the other hand go through them all the time as long the trap is high enough

If you knew what you were doing would you guys say that this could be an effective method for harvesting coyotes?

I was reading an article in fur taker once and I think it was Ron Cauble that said he used to catch coyotes in trails with coni's regularly, but I'm not sure if he narrowed the trail down or it was an accidental catch. I think it would be neat to catch one in a coni though.

I had a discussion with Chic Anders (sp) at Funke's a few years ago, he liked trapping coyotes with 220's, and showed me pictures of his set up and a surprising number of catch photos.
His method obviously worked, but from my perspective, I think its a poor choice for targeting coyotes. 220's set for k9's are just asking for a bad experience, and bad PR, and more restrictions.

Why would you want to limit your self to such an inefficient method? I'm sure you could catch 100X as many with foot holds and snare than with 220's. It would be like taking a .22LR on a bear hunt. Will it work? Yes, but it is far from the best option.

season before last caught 1 coyote in a bmi mag 220, looked like expired real quick,by small round metal culvert in really weedy trail, set up for coon. caught 1 by foot in bmi 160 magnum few years ago, hooked to earth anchor, usally get 1 or 2 red fox a year in 220s and most are alive. no not a good are effective way to get coyote and not good idea with dogs around if you were going to try 220 coyotes, you would have a hard time getting one in 220

I thought it would just be cool to catch a coyote in a conibear.

Years back, I knew of a couple guys who used 330s, in a hogwire fence, they cut a hole in the fence just large enough for the 330 and put bait piles on each side of the fence. I was told they caught quite a few coyotes that way but I would never try it.......... Too risky + being illegal.
