I think we should leave the legislature out of DNR matters. It already is a privilage. If you don't pay your child support or some other things you will be denied a license so I would say no. LLL

I would have to say yes as long as it is subject to the regulations and restrictions prescribed by general law. If it is a right, it would be alot harder for activists to try and take our privledge away.

this would be a very good thing...very good...there will come a time where outdoors men will be thankful that we have this on the books...and this would be the time to get it done with the gov. we got in place now
there will come a time where we will see a government that are antis and what to take out rights away
one of the best ideas i'v heard in a long time

Is hunting, fishing, trapping a 'right' or a 'privilage'? A right is something that someone can't take away from you and a privilage is something earned and can be taken away. If my previous statement is true and LLL's statement is true, then it must be a privilage.
I kinda think it is an inherited right. You might earn the privilage to purchase a fishing, hunting or trapping license though. So, I guess I can agree with taking the privilage of purchasing a license away from some low life dead beats, though.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to have an amendment making hunting, fishing and trapping a right. But why stop there...lots of other inherited rights that could be included in an amendment...breathing air would be another one...just saying.

IMO this will not be abused because rights still can be taken away... look at the right to vote or bear arms. Felons lose both of those rights.

demoman it is hard to give away something if the anti's take it away from you dont you agree? I honestly don't believe that if it was in our constitution the antis won't try to take trapping away. Look at the second amendment, our government is always trying to take that "right" away. I have mixed feelings about this post, but right now I have to say no..

Correct furman:
I posted this the other day to see what the mood may be from Iowa sportsmen on this and if I should go forward in the pursuit of the Amendment or not.
I will let it run a while before I make a choice.

If it was a right, wouldn't that mean you'd have to do away with licenses and paying to hunt? And you also couldn't lose your license if you were caught poaching, ect.

Probably be just like your right bear arms. If your deemed a hazard to yourself or others the right can be taken away, such as felons or someone declared mentally unfit. You would still have to be licensed to hunt. Pay to play

You would still have to abide by the rules and laws, regulations as outlined in the following.
Therefore, the Legislature intends that the citizens of Iowa have a right to hunt, fish, Trap and take game, subject to the regulations and restrictions prescribed by general law.
Penalties / violations etc are still subject to law as are the requirements of licenses / fees etc.
What it does is protect your present opportunties from ever being lost by those who seek at every measure to make it harder to hunt fish, trap or take wild game by lawful methods perscribed by law.
