According our counties sherrif's department web site, yes you can.
You can't shoot off the road etc... but while driving between fields you are fine.

Heard that a guy got a ticket from the c.o. in Bremer county for carrying a loaded shotgun in his car, and yes he has a carry permit. Am trying to find out the rest of the story? Seems the c.o. says its a no-no while hunting? Will try to get back to all with the rest of the story as I talk to all parties involved, later Ray

He has to have a 2011 permit, old permit, old rules. If your going to do it, I'd print out the link and keep it in your truck, easier to argue and win on the side of road then have to go to courthouse later and win. www.iowadnr.gov/law/files/weaponspermitguide.pdf

Just took the concieled weapons permitt class tonight and found out something interesting,, if I understood it right. You can have a loaded gun in your vehicle... BUT if its with in the passengers reach (their wing span) AND if the passenger with you does not have his or her permitt to carry and you get stopped by a peace officer, that person can get ticketed for having the loaded gun even though its yours. cant happen if the gun is on you though ( becasue its not readily available to them ), it has to be readilly available to the passenger.
