You cannot set or maintain any foothold or body-gripping trap or snare within 20 feet of exposed bait on land anywhere in the state, or over water in the following areas: a) Mississippi River corridor - Allamakee, Clayton, Dubuque, Jackson, Clinton, Scott, Muscatine, Louisa, Des Moines and Lee counties. b) Missouri River corridor - Those portions of Woodbury, Monona, Harrison, Pottawattamie, Mills and Fremont counties west of Interstate 29. c) Des Moines River corridor- Boone, Dallas, Polk, Marion, Mahaska, Wapello and Van Buren counties.

I'm just being me, but will someone define river corridor, and does it just apply to the river corridor in those counties, or to every little stream, creek and trickle throughout the county?

Dont know why nobody else has corrected me yet but I just got off the phone with Dale Billingsly and he said that he called des moines and asked them to define des moines river corridor and they told him it means from the river to the "high water" mark. Any input Chris F.?

dave, if the warden over told you it applies to the entire county, i will go by that. he is the one writing the ticket. i assume it is left vague like this to be interpreted by each officer?

It wasn't made vague on purpose. Laws are written to be clear, and usually are, to those writing them. No self-respecting lawman wants to be told, "use your best judgement". It would be interesting to see a transcript of the hearings that were held while these laws were being hammered out. Some diagrams I have seen pertaining to a river corridor include the river's meander, some include it's tributaries. As for covering the fish head with grass, it kind of defeats the purpose. Just use some paste bait on the grass wad.

"Exposed bait" means meat or viscera of any animal, bird, fish, amphibian, or reptile with or without skin, hide or feathers that is visible to soaring birds.
2010-2011 Iowa Hunting and Trapping Regulations
In other words just make a quick pocket set and the dnr cant really say anything cuz unless if them birds are soaring under 10 feet off the ground they shouldnt be able to see the bait

In my counties I trap it doesn't matter but to others I know why they want to use this set in those counties.
