Great job, everyone! But Badger's post about Representative Paul Bell deleting his e-mail without reading it worries me as he is the chair. Also, remember how bad it looked for prestaking last year and at the last minute it was saved? This would be a huge loss so keep the pressure on.

just sent my response to this bill.
Greetings, It has come to my attention that house bill 2139 has been introduced which has the intentions of ending the ability to harvest fur in the road right of way. many furbearing species in the state of IA. are highly prolific and without an annual harvest quickly exede the carrying capcity of which they live in. When this occurs desease, starvation, and human to animal contact are greatly increased. Scientific studies prove this to be fact. Many landowners are leary about letting idividuals harvest fur on their property due to possible liability issues. Harvesting fur in the road right of ways is the most effective way to help keep fur bearing populations within the carrying capacity of the echo system. Many laws already exist to protect domestic pets and people from encountering fur harvesting tools used in the ROW. If regulated fur harvesting is out lawed in the ROW, fur bearer pop. will quickly explode leaving the job of controlling the over population in the hands of the state. Tax increases would most likely be inevitable so that the state could hire the personell needed to control the over population. The states budget is already strapped for funding in many areas. Voting consituants will have a hard time accepting a tax increase for a service that had been provided for free through regulated ROW trapping. I urge you to please vote down bill 2139 for the well being of this great state. Sincerely, David S. Plueger

Sincerely, Jodi Tymeson State Representative Iowa House District 73

Well done riverbandit. And tell Courtny she has a fan club! I have read her article in the Jan. Fur Taker Magazine several times as a bed time story to my girls.
OK. Here is my response from Representative Jodi Tymeson.
Dear Wayne, This bill has very little chance of passing. I appreciate hearing from you! Jodi
That sounds good but saying the bill has been killed in committee would be better. BTW, she didn't respond until I sent a second e-mail her way. Hope they're not playing 'possum, guys!

Thanks Wayne, I will tell Cortny. She will be surprised to hear her article used as a bed time story.
I too will feel much better when they declare this bill is dead.

Huseman is the only response I've received, and he is my rep. I trap a lot of problem beaver for farmers around where he lives.

I kept mine very short and simple-
I would urge you to please oppose the bill which would ban trapping in the right of way road ditches. Already there are effective laws on the books which protect pets by keeping traps away from residences.
Thanks Bruce Rhoads Brooklyn

Got a reply today: I am going to reply back to her:
Thanks for your comments. This bill was introduced because of constituent concerns. It probably does not have enough support to move forward. I appreciate hearing from you!
Sincerely, Jodi Tymeson State Representative Iowa House District 73 Capitol 515 281-7615 Home 515 462-5081
I got second reply from her a few hours after sending my reply to the above message::
Ryan, Of course I have constituents on both sides of this issue. I do support hunting, fishing, and trapping. I would be surprised if this bill even got out of subcommittee. Thanks again for writing!
Sincerely, Jodi Tymeson State Representative Iowa House District 73 Capitol 515 281-7615 Home 515 462-5081

Received this today:
Good afternoon, Thank you for contacting me. I spoke with Chairman Bell today about the status of HF 2139. He informs me that he is unaware of any activity regarding this bill. Friday is the first funnel date which means that in all probability, this bill will be dead as of that date. Regards, Curt Representative Curt Hanson
House District #90
Fairfield, Iowa
Sounds pretty good but it ain't over 'till it's over. I contacted 7 reps and haven't heard back from 4. I think I'll resend e-mails to the other 4 tomorrow.

I don't think this bill was going anywhere anyway but lots of trappers stepped up to the plate and showed we are aware and we will be heard. Good job people and remember you will be needed to do the same again in the future.
