I've got a creek that has a small drain tile 15 feet from the stream. It's still flowing into the creek, causing the only open spot on the creek. The open spot is 2 1/2 feet wide and 4 feet long. It looks to only be about 1--14 inches deep. Something is coming and going from this opening causing an icy trail. I caught an otter 10 feet upstream from this last year on a beaver dam cross-over. Not sure if it's an otter or mink. Either way, I'd like to set it. How should I do it? There is a log that they go and then right into the water. Should I drop a 220 in the water downstream at the last point of the opening? 280? The runs are about 1 feet wide going up the creek bank. The size is making me think otter.
Just not sure how to set this thing up. Didn't know if a snare on the runs on dry land would work too.
Thanks!!!

The base of the run is only 6 or so inches deep and there is a drop off over a log into the water right there. I'm wondering if putting one into the channel would be good and block the sides a little to steer it right into the coni.

It was beavers. Chewed trees everywhere today. I got a 280 into the channel where they exit into the opening in the ice. Hope to have one waiting for me tomorrow!

add a couple 110's around the edges like a bottom edge of the opening and you could pick up rats or mink along with the beaver, space them out away from the beaver trap

the idea is a good one and If I had done just that and followed my advice I would have pulled a beaver out of a 330 instead of a muskrat this morning

Aparently this guy didn't educate himself the first time snapping my 280. Had a nice necklace on this morning. This guy is enormous. I don't have a scale that will weigh him. My 50lb fishing scale maxed out. Super fat. This has to be the biggest I've ever taken. Can't believe he fit in that channel coming and going. Here you can see the smallish opening in the ice. Here he is on the tailgate. Wish I had a better way to show how fat this thing is.

that truck is way too clean I know. Just cleaned the weekend before for deer hunting. I am back to trapping mode again though. Won't take long to get it muddy and bloody.

All that dirt is paint protectant. I had a 2000 Tundra that I sold last summer. Had over 200K miles on it. Awesome truck. I bought a new one and sorta baby it. My first "new" anything. It's a monster so far in the snow and mud though. I plan to own it for a very long time.

Beavers made another opening down the creek 20 feet with fresh peeled sticks. Looks like it's time to drop another coni.

Nice one! Looks like the same as mine. I just dropped in a 280 and a 330 into the creek. I should have another tomorrow by the looks of the fresh sign this morning.
