Looking at getting a pistol in the future. Want to get a 22 semi auto. I got a couple revolvers that are cheap junkers that workfine for trapping, whats some opinions on different pistols that are known for being accurate. I know that a gun is only as accurate as the shooter, but the two revolvers I have, I might be better off throwing them at coon sometimes . Thanks for yuor advice

having shot the ruger mark III .22 i don't know if i would go another route. that being said, i use my dad's .22 Ruger old style single six. He has passed away in feb of 2005 and it is the gun he and used trapping together, so i will continue to keep it up and use it. but for better accuracy i would go with the first gun i mentioned above

I have shot the Rurgers , mark 1 and 2 and they really shot well. I do not own one but would like to have one. My semi auto of choice ti the Browning buckmark. I love this gun and it shoots very well. I would buy another in a second . Either would be very good guns for you. See how they feel and ask around to see who has them and go shoot them.

i used to use a revolver but having to reload after six shots got real old. i love this little .22, with the 4 clips that allows for 40 shots before sitting in the truck and reloading, except for the first couple days of the season. the gun has been dropped in the bottom of the cricks more than once. i take apart and give a good cleaning and oil after the season is over. had it for 7 years now and money well spent.

I prefer a pistol that will shoot shorts, instead of LR. Mainly for noise I guess. I don't believe a semi auto will cycle a short, so for trapping purposes, it seems a revolver is the only option. However for fun shooting, I've shot both of the mentioned semi-auto's and both the ruger and the browning are awesome.

At present I own a Ruger MKI. a MKII slab side and a MKIII bull barrel. I've had the MKI for over 40 years and use it on the trap line everyday. Very reliable, accurate and easy to maintain. Some people complain about putting them back togeather after a full strip down but I have never had a problem.

Ruger isn't a bad choice there is a little in the tear down and reassembling of the gun but after you get it down it isn't bad. The browning I would say feels better in the hand well balanced to take it down you need to remove two screws witch over time could pose a problem plus they aren't made in the US. The picture of the walther is also a nice gun well designed easiest of the three to take down less weight feels good in the hand they are tied with smith & wesson. All that being said pound for pound a good quality revolver will hold up better than any auto plus they aren't picky on ammo ( longs, shorts, federal, Winchester) either some autos only function great with certain ammo.

I still love my buckmark and would buy another. I have shot thousands of rounds through the buckmark and have had no problems with it. It likes Winchester wild cats. I have shot the ruger mark 1 and 2 but not the 3. Like I said before if I was buying a ruger it would be in the heavy barrel.

I have bought a few pistols for trapping and as we all know they.are not going to stay clean we have fish oil on our hands and mud and dirt so i ended up spending the money and buying a smith and wesson stainless ten shot revolver. It does not rust it has a four inch barrel so i can shoot coon accuratly at decent yardage. It ran me over seven hundred bucks but well worth it. One of my better investments

Ruger Bearcat. Light and shoots straight. I use .22 hollow points. Only draw back is 6 shot revolver, but thats why drowning sets are great.

Get a Heritage Mfg. Rough Rider .22 single action revolver. I got one 2 weeks ago for $175. I got the .22LR model but they do make one for 22WMR. I love mine, and the fact I can shoot 22 shorts thru it is even better. Attachments:

22a is cheap to buy and breaks down easy which is nice for a trapping gun. Auto's require a little more maintenance than revolvers. It all comes down to what you want and feel confident with.
