Seems to be a ton of questions about this recently. I know it's not bad to ask questions on here but I recommend everyone grabbing a FREE regs book, look it over and keep it in your vehicle. Sorry for my rant in advance.

Agreed and I've read it many times myself but it only highlights some of the laws. Where can a person find detailed information on all trapping laws. For example there is alot of talk about exposed bait and it says no exposed bait in the Mississippi River corridor, how far away from the river is that line? I could call the CO but it would be helpful to know where to find that info in the future. Thanks

Read it again. It says no bait inside the state at all within 20 feet of a trap and not over water in certain areas of the corridors.

Should have been more specific. I meant in water.

it states that you can not put a snare or coni with in 200 yards but doesnt say anything about legholds and dog proofs so can you set a leghold within 200 yards if its under water?

If you're talking about road right of way, it also states...... "This does not limit the use of foothold traps or box-type live traps in public road right-of-ways."

I think all of Iowa's regs are available at the Library. Look for State of Iowa Code, but this will include ALL regs for the state (not just DNR)

Sounds like to me if theres a confusion on the regs call the CO in your area. Our money pays for their salary and their the ones who write the ticket if your wrong on your interpetation of the law.
