Got your 2000 text at 11:56 a.m. ADC, Just want you to know right now, if someone spray paints Locals Suck! and keeps putting MN plates and Vikings bumper stickers on your truck next spring when you go to SD, I know nothing about it! BTW, I don't think they have a deer stop law in SD. ;D

BTW, I don't think they have a deer stop law in SD. ;D ooh, rat snaring! You want to go along Wayne? You can do the work and I'll set in the truck and shout instructions. Someone has to be the supervisor! We can get a camera crew and we'll be like the Deadliest Catch... "Quit your BEEP complaining and get the BEEP out there. Stupid BEEP BEEP BEEP." ~ADC~

Well, this Iowa Rat Boy's trip to South Dakota has come to an end , everything is packed, trailer is hooked up and ready to leave in the morning. Ended with one short of 2100. Was another lousy day weather wise-windy and rain most of the day-Yuk for SD weather. Actually this trip far exceeded my expectations, many things were learned to make next year better. Took lots of pictures today including the 5 head catches, two white feet rats and the last rat-one of the biggest of the trip-he filled up one half of float. ADC; You are going to have to wear hip boots to trap here-can't get away with those chore boots you wear in Iowa!

Hope you have/had a safe trip home. Don't want to see on the news about a load of rats scattered on the interstate. Gene

Ate lunch and took instruction from a legend today! Thought it was Johnny Thorpe at first but it was Kelly, just a little stiff from the long line... Truck looked about the same as when he stopped by on his way to SD. A little putty and paint had fixed the bullet holes and 20 bucks at the car wash nearly had eliminated the blood and spray paint (Non Residents Go Home!). ;D The tires were squatted from the weight of the cash he was hauling. And he did have a few 'rats which included these and in another freezer behind me... Kelly instructed me how to correctly sex beaver... Amazing how simple something is when you're taught by a legend! Thanks Kelly! And see, I didn't embarrass you!

Here is my first smashing of personal best days(previous was 116) catch of 139. Then next day had 141, then 136. Then my new personal best one days catch of 170! And finally a PICKUP LOAD OF RATS at my first sale, 752 muskrats fill up my F-150 bed pretty nicely! ;D Now, last one(#2099) caught but certainly not the least. One of the bigger rats of the trip. My floats are 28" long and 8.5" wide.

how many floats did you have here kelly Not as many as I should have, could have had if there was a shoulder to pull over onto. Had 4-two on each side of raod at each end of the sloughs where there was enough shoulder to pull off the main road. It was a very busy road very near a town, otherwise would have just parked the truck in the middle of the road on the lesser traveled ones. Another thing working against me on this particular sloughs was immediate deep water off the pavement-like over my hip boots within one step from hard surface.

I dont own a pair of hip boots kelly lol.
8 to 10 on each side wouldnt have been too many if the rats were on the big push.
Was that picture state land or private. It looks like a killer spot for a winter inside the hut run.

It looks like a killer spot for a winter inside the hut run. It was State land that was trapped hard during the Fall and Winter-still lots of rats though. Another thing, I was competing with 6 other non residents and 1 local guy in the same area and they all had this plastered with floats for most of the time I was there. Actually drove past it for almost 3 weeks without setting a float because of the competition who had over 20 floats here. After they pulled out is when I set my 4 floats and still caught rats including the very last day.
