Term limits are not the answer. They are very attractive if you have a stinker, but really unfair to everyone in a district where the director is doing a good job for his people . I'm with you K9, not sure I could put my personal convictions aside just to please the majority on a hot button issue. I'm a believer on the representative republic when it comes to governing. Scott

Lots of good ideas guys. Remember all this requires a by laws change and that is a slow process (according to the by laws).
Was sad about the turn out at the DNR Commissioners meeting. I would have been there but had National Governing board meeting in Mena, Arkansas. Things just work that way sometimes. As for the others, who knows.

Hopefully this will be a wake up call, and people will treat this tool (prestaking) with respect, or I have no doubt it will be taken from us next time around. Scott

There really are great idea's coming from here, I'm still not convinced it is easier to set up elections for all 29 director positions than it is to show up, volunteer and prove yourself more worthy, or atleast more dedicated than others for a position. I would tell you how many elections I lost before I became director at large but you may not believe it, or you'd laugh! For those who think we could hold elections, and would be a better system, please try to walk us through from the beginning, from nominations to ballots, to having them counted. One thing I will recommend is only 1/3 or 1/4 of the directors be up for election at a time, that would be 3-4 year terms with no limit on years.

To expand on Gene's theme in other threads, we are a small group. By that I mean trappers who care enough to get involved, and have the work ethic to follow through. Further, we need to have common sense folk in that position who are level headed and well spoken when they need to be, and are willing to shut up when it is in our best interests.
Sometimes not staying silent is more damaging than speaking out.
Thats a small pool of Iowa trappers to draw from. Just because someones a trapper does not make them the best choice for a Director who may represent us to the general public.
