This is my first year trapping, tonight SW Iowa is expecting snow. I mainly trap on public because I do not know to many people that have farms. I go driving around on gravel roads and b class roads to set traps. I am hoping that I can find some tracks from coyotes. I don't want to traps someones dog or fox since the season for fox is over. If any one have any prints of coyotes in snow to post it would really help me a lot and would appreciate it. Or other tips that would help me trapping my first coyote. I have done a lot or research on line but any bit more knowledge I can obtain from experience trappers would be grateful .

Yup, may be too late to trap them but definitely a good chance to learn something for next year!

it is true that coyote season is open but only for hunting and shooting them...NO TRAPPING for coyotes...Coyote Trapping season is the same for fox...
if you have traps set right now they had better be for beaver ONLY...as that is the ONLY trapping season open right now

Thanks for the info everybody, I taught coyote trapping was all year long but I see it is only for hunting it. Guess I will have to buy some 330's and catch my first beaver. I will have to do more reading on beavers and see if I can find a beaver dam under bridges or ask permission from someone .

If the ice ever comes out the beaver will run in the spring. Just set under the bridges and they will come to you.

yep...and if you set them 330's make sure the whole trap is under water...if you have to dig the mud out to get the top of the jaws underwater it won't hurt a thing...the beaver won't care

Thanks, for the offer i will need help coming next season, I do not have much trapping experience. I skinned a couple and the rest i sold as carcus. This is my first year trapping and started late in the season and with very few traps but next season I want to get me at least 3 dozen of Dog Proof traps.
