hey guys, just had an idea...could be dumb but also could have merit...
what about putting a mouse trap or 2 in the back of a bucket along with your normal bait to catch the mice that are stealin the bait...the mice would be an added attraction......just an idea

Good idea. Bill Nelson claimed that when he used rabbit, fish or muskrat for mink bait in his pockets that he believed the mink were hunting the mice that were eating the bait. I didnt keep record but maybe someone needs to keep track of coon catches in buckets regularly visited by mice vs ones that are not?

I thought about using one of those sticky traps for the little bait stealers.

Sticky trap would keep the mouse alive longer. That would be a good thing I would think.

Better get a Pat. Pending on this idea. I like it. Sticky trap could even be cut to fit.

How sticky is that gorilla tape? Could a strip of that be put in the bucket?

I only have a concern about glue trap. In Iowa we can not use live bait, would it be considered live bait ? Or would it be considered a trap for mice? I like the idea of using glue traps because i think it would catch the attention of the coons with a mouse in distress calling.

Marshmallows are cheaper than mouse traps IMO but curious to hear how it works you probably better call your co about the sticky tape and live bait to be for certain.

Marshmallows could be gone in a hour at some of my spots. I put to big carp or catfish heads in a bucket or box and if I'm lucky there are a few bones left in the back and your lure is doing all the work.

Sprinkle some Decon under the bucket. Glue and coon sound like a pain to me. Mice are worse his year than I have ever seen but load the bucket up with bait and take your lumps. I have more slick tails stealing bait than mice. LLL

The mice population explosion may benefit trappers in the form of an abundant food source for nursing mothers this spring. Does anyone know if possum actually kill anything they eat? What has worked for me is marinating my carp heads in a molasses heavy FPF and then squirting a lot of strawberry jelly on the head at the set. I believe much of the rodent problem is shrews which are primarily meat eaters. I don't think the shrews like the jelly, but the coon just love it!

Does anyone know if possum actually kill anything they eat? I once shot a rabbit and before anyone got there to retrieve it a nearby possum grabbed it. It was already dead but he shook it like a dog shakes a live coon. Funny as hell to see. ~ADC~

... I have more slick tails stealing bait than mice. LLL Maybe they are the same thing. I have an area that I need to use use sweet bait to avoid pets. I have fed the mice so much sweet bait that they must be the size of possums and they must all be diabetic by now!

Does anyone know if possum actually kill anything they eat? They kill gobs of baby rabbits and grouse and quail....unless they found the nest full of eggs first. They prey/forage on all ground and low nesting critters.
