How many guys are out snaring coyotes right now, I had 2 snares set for about the last week close to town where we deer hunt each year, during shotgun season I saw lots of yote tracks in there and its all timber not really anyway to hunt it so I tried some snares and pick up my first coyote there today...got some more spots I may set next week kinda pumped me up getting that one today!

I snared 2 this week. One over a bait pile and one on another piece of land. My bait pile wasn't strategically placed well enough. Gonna get that better next year. It's fun but I've missed a few. I think foothold trapping would be way more more productive here. That's next years project.

Been out for about the last 30 days on 9 different farms . It has been a lot of fun as we picketed up 21 yotes. Problem is that 6 of them mangy. Setting on fence lines and Crp trails just takes time to connect on some trails. Now am after a cat will see how that works.

That sucks to here about the mange, we have now killed over 40 coyotes in our group and only had one mangy yote! As far as going out to set more I'm also waiting till after today for sure maybe even wait it out tomorrow cuz its way to cold for any body to be outside doing anything, way to much stuff can happen when its this cold not worth it just wait til Wednesday its going to get warm again talking lmost 40 here! maybe even pick up some late season coon that would sure be nice

Weather wasnt too bad thisa.m. Went out and ran my little 20 set line close to home. Busted up thin ice at my tile dumps. Alot of rabbits sitting out getting the morning sun. Saw 30 + sitting out yesterday evening!

I love snaring. For some reason, I'm actually pretty decent at it. I suck at catching yotes with footholds. I've done it, but I'm terrible. Snares are pretty easy and cheap, so I can put lots of them out which increases my catch percentage. Love them this time of year as the ground is frozen and they still work just fine and I just anchor to smaller trees.

It was not that bad out this morning. It was only -14 according to the truck thermometer, unless it was frozen . I have out just a short line, but still picked up a red fox this morning. I remember back when I started trapping, it was REALLY cold, we had to walk uphill both to AND from school.......waist deep snow......yada yada.

Snared these two today off the same farm. Both caught where they cross the frozen creek.

Set a snare on a ditch trail last night, collected #7 this morning. I'm getting so addicted, I might just skip coon trapping all together next year. I can't get ANY of my snare stakes out of the ground to move them to new land. Vice grips just turn em into smooth rod.

Yeah I got hooked about six years ago, and I remembered my 1st year I trapped 4 coyotes and only got $15 for all four. But here I am 6 years later still going after coyotes, but receiving better money for them now. It's a good high.

I will hit the stake hard a couple of times and use the vice grips and in all most all cases stake will pop out.

Been doing that. Used every trick I know, they don't come out. They just bend or the vice grip spins on em.
I've been successful in getting almost every stake out in past years, just not happening this year. I'll be back for them in march.

Give the vice grip another quarter turn and clamp it down it won't twist anymore. (eat your Wheaties before you head out) ?

I really don't think they're coming out with the vice grip and hammer. I may end up bending them and trying to twist it like a crank.

One of these work good if you can get under it.

If you drive a stake into wetland grassy soil they will freeze all the way to the bottom of your stake. Good luck!

I've been trying hard to get some out, they just aren't going to come out with the regular vice grip and hammer method! I've gotten a couple but most won't budge. They aren't deep enough in the ground for a crow bar or claw of a hammer.
I think that last warm up got a lot of moisture into the ground and froze things up tight.
I've got an idea though which will hopefully do the trick.

I have the same problem the vise grip and hammer has always worked but not after this last cold spell. I have several that won't budge and some that I got to spin put cannot still pull up .The crowbar trick don't work on my poles nothing to latch on to. They are 4ft poles but only in the ground probably a foot. The ground is so hard I'm having a hard time even pounding them in the ground with my 4pound hammer today. I do know my back don't appreciate it tonight!. Nobody said this winter coyote snaring was easy I guess.

Well I was thinking a handyman jack, along with a piece of chain. I'm really not sure if it'll work. The struggles of living in the the North I'm moving to the banana belt after college.
