What are your opinions on mods for 1-1/2 coils? The target animal will mainly be coon with the exception of a few rats and mink.

I don't do much to mine I have put on some mink pans and added some swivels on some over the years but I mainly just use a stock duke 1.5 DJ coil spring with no mods. But if you like to tinker with traps go for it that's how you will learn what you like and there is a lot worse things you could be doing with your time

I learned the value of the flopper pan in SD years ago. I/ll never run another 1.5 coil without floppers again. It's the first thing that gets swapped on a new trap...and IMO, it's the worst flaw of the 1.5 coil.
Now, my main target most years is rats. However, my coon catch % has gone up as well, since swapping pans.
I/d about promise those who say they are a waste of time, never ran them side by side next to stock pans....or ran them side by side next to a trapper who knows what he/s doing and out catches you 2:1 on the smaller critters.

Ran kendalls new trap this year. Lost a single coon due to a toe catch and that was it. (I lost more coon out of DP's if that says anything)
I would say my rat catch has went up since using the pinch pans also. I dont think Ill set a trap unless it has the double jaw and pinch pan combination. Just my opinion.

Speaking of double jaws... does anyone now where I can find DJ add ons for my Bridger 1-1/2s? I asked MTP and they don't carry anything for them.

Im assuming all trappers are humane to begin with so maybe make it a little clearer bud. Just a little manly humor. WE are all friends here.

Whats with the drinking insult ? I was trying to figure out where you were coming from with what to me sounded like a bizarre question. I was asking why you would ask what you did and where it came from. If you were not drinking then the "or what" would pertain to you. LLL

What is the advantage of a laminated jaw for water trapping? Dry land there is a distinct advantage.

just stronger springs on mine. all new 1 1/2's get brand new music wire. never gotten into the lamination thing but I could see where it would help with coons that chew.
