I was given the heads up that the warden was looking for me, so I gave him a call. Seems that anchoring a trap to a concrete block is illegal and he had confiscated two of mine from culverts. We talked awhile and he is going to give me a warning violation tomorrow. As I learned this set from this site, I'm letting you know.

got to be another story to go with it, it is not illegal to fasten a trap to a drag in iowa...no matter what the drag is

Really? I have used cement blocks as the deep end of beaver drowners. Handy, if you can drive close to the set area.

snare yes as can't hook a snare to a drag but if it is a foot trap or conibear then it would be fine

Ive talked to the game warden before about them, he never said it was illegal, actually said it was a good idea.

He said that it was in the code that no trap could be attached to a drag. He agreed that it wasn't in that it wasn't clear in the regulation book, but it was in the code. His reasoning was the block could be drug by the coon on the smooth culvert floor past the fence line.

I disagree with that C.O. if that is truely in the code it should be in the pamphlet we all get as well. You got screwed IMO. Hopefully some of the CO's on here can clear this up.

Kind of suspicious you have fur ripped off from these type sets, then trouble from the law. Sounds to me like trappers causing trouble for other trappers. I disagree with the C.O. But if he presses it, you know how to catch those coon with 10 other methods. Welcome to Iowa during the Fur Boom, Joe.

I will adjust and drive on Wayne. I only did it because I don't like to press the edge of the row. Setting inside is as in the row as you can get.

So, if trapped game goes across the limit of the ROW, should you not pursue the animal? Whether it is staked or on a drag you have a responsibility to recover game.
I believe the no drag rule only pertains to snares.

Sounds like your CO is a reasonable guy since he offered to only write a warning violation. I'd ask your CO to call Chris Flynn and ask him first. Like others have already stated, My interpretation from the game law synopsis is that only snares are prohibited from being attached to a drag.
I could be in trouble as well. Been attaching traps to concrete blocks for years.
This is totally irrelevant to the legalities, but. I'll throw the BS flag on the potential to drag a full sized concrete (not cinder) block out of the row. I've had big coon move a concrete block a few feet on a smooth surface, but no further.

Please keep us updated on this Joe. If there is an obscure law out there on this I'd like to know before I set some of these sets later on in the winter.

I've known Mr. Price for a long time! Always got along with him, but he thinks he is preety important. I can see how he made this mistake!

Id like to catch a coon that can drag off a 35 pound concrete block X2. That would be a big one Guys, the coon doesn't pick up the block and carry it on its back, they simply drag it. A 20lb coon can drag a concrete block a good distance if the conditions are right. Been there, seen it.

I don't think you will have any problem with officer price, Furgood. You are the most legal competitor I've ever had and Price is a good egg in my book. I'm pretty sure he also traps. We're all constantly learning and we all make mistakes.
