On Tman, a nice young man commented he'd caught his first bobcat in a 280/cubby set in Western Iowa.
I talked to a fellow trapper, who usually in the "know" who also agreed, we were under the impression 280's on land in Iowa were illegal?
8x8.......doesn't specify inside or outside........I know most of us here are thankful we still can use the 220. Thoughts, clarification..........not looking to starting a whizzing match!

Thoughts, clarification..........not looking to starting a whizzing match! There is no discussion or gray area all 280's are illegal on land in Iowa. A couple years back they set up that they are to be measured outside jaw spread. There are no 280's less than 8" measured this way. Even the 250 Northwoods are too big. I am 100% sure on this. All the proof is right here if you don't believe me. www.iowatrapperstalk.com/index.cgi?board=laws~ADC~

I thought, understood 280 were illegal.........I was simply wanting clarification. Jayme, I see you found the post.
I fully agree, 280 on dry land are nothing but trouble.......especially given such urban sprawl.

How about Northwoods 280's? I thought if I remember right that Red O'Hearn used them as they where legal size wise? Maybe I'm wrong as I don't own a Northwoods 280. Later Ray. Edit this post,I believe the Northwoods where refered to as 250's not 280's, gotta check into this more.

Ray as I said in my first post. The NW 250s are too big as well when measured outside jaw spread. thosesmiths, all DNR were suppose to be educated on the proper way to measure them now that there is a standard method to do so. ~ADC~
